My name is Florian Kugler. I'm 46 years old and have been running Feincamper since 2021 in my workshop in Kleinmachnow, right on Berlin's southern edge. The workshop used to be called "Anton Reisemobile" — at the beginning of 2026 I renamed it to Feincamper to better express what my work is about.
I originally come from software engineering. About ten years ago I rediscovered my love for craftsmanship and specialized in traditional solid-wood furniture making. My first van conversion in 2019 was the seed for today's work: I was fascinated by combining many trades in a tight space in a project that a single person can plan and execute end to end.
The focus of my work is still very much on high quality carpentry, because I have developed a special relationship with wood through years of intensive work. But bodywork, electrical installation, and building systems are also part of my daily routine. Since the German Chamber of Crafts considers these activities to be part of the vehicle body and vehicle construction trade, they require a master craftsman qualification. I obtained a special permit to perform this trade in the area of van conversions.
What's important to me in my work
The projects leaving my shop have to meet my own high standards of craftsmanship. That requires being able to work patiently, which is why I only work on one project at a time until I'm truly satisfied.
It matters to me that the conversion not only looks good and works well, but also feels right: smooth surfaces, no rough spots, no sharp edges. That's especially important in such a tight space, where you're always within arm's reach of the next piece of furniture. You touch and notice far more details than you would in a living room.
I also value clean workmanship on the inside. Neatly bonded insulation, well-routed cables and lines, accessible systems — all of that improves the end product and makes my work easier. In order for everything to remain reachable when needed, I only bond the insulation and substructure to the body; everything else can always be removed.
Feincamper is intentionally a one-person business. This lets me fulfill special wishes on individual projects and ensures every vehicle is crafted with the same care from start to finish.
For you, that means communication is much simpler: you have one contact person, and there are no misunderstandings between different trades or responsibilities.
The workshop
My workshop is located on Berlin's southwestern edge, in Kleinmachnow. With around 100 square meters, I have space for one vehicle, a well-equipped carpentry shop, and everything else needed for camper or motorhome conversions.
My workshop mixes traditional and modern tools: hand planes, chisels, and other classic hand tools are part of my daily work. Alongside them are modern woodworking machines as well as CNC equipment and 3D printers, which open up entirely new possibilities in production.
The podcast
Because van conversions are more than just a job to me, I launched the Camperwerkstatt Podcast in 2024. It's a hobby with no commercial background — simply about the joy of exchanging ideas with colleagues and others in the industry on topics relevant to van conversions. Note: the podcast is in German.
Whenever possible, I record the conversations in person at my guests' workshops. That's the best part of the project: I meet great people in the scene and get to look inside their workshops. These encounters regularly inspire me, and often lead to lasting contacts and even friendships.
